BRITTAIN AND BLEWETT WIN TOUR MOD TWIN 50’S

AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Veteran stock car drivers Pete Brittain of Cream Ridge and Jimmy Blewett of Howell each raced to victory in twin 50-lap main events for tour type Modified stock cars in front of a large crowd at Wall Stadium Saturday night. While Brittain led every lap of the first race to take the win, Blewett raced from the rear of the 22-car field to win the second race after an early crash sent him to the pit area for repairs.

When Brittain rocketed to the lead in the first Modified race, Anthony Sesely of Matawan was his first challenger as Blewett rode third. Blewett advanced to second on a lap seven restart and then wrestled with Brittain the rest of the way. Sesely held a tight third to the finish, while invaders Ted Christopher of Plainfield, Ct. and Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. were fourth and fifth.

“I have to thank the crew and Don Ling for this win,” said Brittain after his first win at the track since 1990. “Jimmy (Blewett) gave me all I could handle, but he drove me like a gentleman all the way.”

The second Modified 50-lapper was wild from start to finish. After a lap three restart crash sent Blewett to the pit area for repairs, Earl Paules of Palmerton, Pa. led until his motor blew on the front stretch on lap 19. Christopher, the reigning NASCAR Modified champion, then took the lead with Jamie Tomaino of Howell on his bumper. On the ensuing restart Tomaino charged to the outside lane in an attempt to pass for the lead, but the duo touched and Tomaino’s car slammed the guard rail before Hirschman’s mount drove over the top of Tomaino’s car on the backstretch. No injuries were reported.

Sesely was Christopher’s next challenger on the following restart, but when Sesely dove low for the pass Christopher blocked his path and Sesely spun from contention.

But multi-time 2009 winner Jimmy Blewett was on a mission.

By lap 20 Blewett had climbed from last to third and quickly raced past Colts Neck’s Justin Gumley for second. Blewett then needed just a few laps to size up Christopher before diving to the inside lane to take the lead on lap 25. From that point on it was all Blewett for the win, with Gumley, Hirschman, Brian Cranmer and Sesely completing the top five.

“He wasn’t going to come into my house and do that,” Blewett said after the race in reference to the controversial driving style of Ted Christopher. “How’d I get by him? I booted the booter!

“I have to thank everyone who works on the car for this one. It was wrecked pretty bad after that early crash. They fixed it and made it run pretty fast.”

Joe King of Galloway crossed the finish line first in the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman 25-lapper, but when his No. 59 failed post-race tech point leader Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck was awarded his third straight win. Charlie Kremer of Toms River, Scott Ferris, Howell’s Kevin Davison and Andrew Krause of East Brunswick were second through fifth.

When early leader Roger Coss of Lafayette spun from the top spot on a slick track Trevor Alspach of Willingboro took the win in the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars. Edison’s Brian Spencer, Mark Tischler of Martinsville, Malcolm Campbell of Eatontown and Kevin Nowak of Medford, N.Y. completed the top five.

Carl Thomas of Tinton Falls wrestled the lead away from Jackson’s Howie Conk on lap 19 and went on to win the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks. Gregg Miranda of Hazlet chased the four-time winner across the finish line, with Ralph Gargiulo of Allenwood, Mike Tillett of Bayville and Conk rounding out the top five.

After restarting the Three Quarter Midget 25-lap race from the rear of the field after being involved in an early crash, Ian Cumens of Lyndell, Pa. raced to his first ever win over his sister, Alison Cumens. Don Adams, Paul Lotier and Mike Janisch were third through fifth.

Whitey Miller of Jamesburg crossed the finish line first in the 20-lap nightcap for the Factory Stocks. Mike Bilello of Neptune, Union’s Joey Helberg, Roy Farfel of Wall and Ricky Williams of Brick completed the top five.

Wall Stadium races back into action this Saturday night, August 15, with the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modifieds returning to compete in the 76 lap “John Blewett III Memorial.” The Sportsman cars, Street Stocks, Legend Cars and Factory Stocks will also compete in regular distance action.

The day will start at high noon when competitor gates open, while a two hour paid practice session will begin at 1:00 p.m. The day’s regularly scheduled practice will run from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., while spectator seating opens at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying for all divisions begins at 6:00 p.m. with main event racing starting at 7:30 p.m.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events every Saturday night through Labor Day. Most Sunday afternoons feature the “Small Car Series” on the fifth mile paved “inner oval.” Legend Cars, Bandoleros, TQ Midgets, Open Karts, Champ Karts, Microstocks and World Formulas are on the card. TED CHRISTOPHER AND MATT HIRSCHMAN TO RACE IN MODIFIED TWIN 50’S THIS SATURDAY (AUG. 8) AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Two auto racing’s most respected tour type Modified stock car drivers, Ted Christopher and Matt Hirschman, say that they will be in the field this Saturday night (August 8) for ROC Qualifier “Twin 50” lap main events at Wall Stadium. Neither driver was able to be on hand when the tour type Modifieds visited Wall for the first time this season back on May 9. Saturday night’s qualifying will start at 6:00 p.m., while feature race action is slated to take the green flag at 7:30 p.m.

Also on this Saturday’s agenda will be the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman car, the Legend Cars and Street Stock racers in 25-lappers and the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks in a 20-lap main event.

Ted Christopher is arguably one of the hottest drivers in Modified racing at present. He is currently enjoying his title of 2008 NASCAR Modified Tour champion, while also savoring the fact that he won two indoor Three Quarter Midget championship races during the recent winter season. The Plainfield, Ct. resident will be at the wheel of one of the most successful race cars in Wall Stadium history as he will pilot the famous red Dick Barney owned No. 14 this Saturday evening.

Matt Hirschman is familiar to Jersey Shore race fans for several reasons. His father, Tony Hirschman, was a many time Wall Stadium winner during his career while also winning many races throughout the northeast. Like his father, the 27 year old Northampton, Pa. resident has won Modified stock car races in almost every major series and at nearly every track around. Just last November, Matt Hirschman was a star here at the shore speedway leading several laps at the wheel of the No. 59 in the famed “Turkey Derby.”

Expected to lead an impressive field of Garden State drivers is Jimmy Blewett of Howell, the winner of the Tour Type Modified feature race at last November’s “Turkey Derby” as well as the one held here earlier this season. Blewett and his Partridge Racing No. 12 will see plenty of competition when the green flag waves.

Among those who were impressive during the May 9 event and are expected to return Saturday is Long Island favorite Tony Ferrante, Jr. in his family owned No. 31, 1990 NASCAR Modified Tour champion Jamie Tomaino of Howell in the Howard Harvey No. 99 and former stadium champion Pete Brittain in the Ling Trucking No. 66.

Also expected to post strong showings are Freehold’s Steven Reed in his family’s famous No. 55, Flemington’s Andy Walko in the No. 27, Brick’s Marc Rogers in the Blauvelt Racing No. 41, Dave Cranmer in his No. 59, fan favorite Tim Arre of Toms River and Rich Ely of Manasquan. Justin Gumley of Colts Neck and recent Wall Modified winner Anthony Sesely of Matawan will also have their tour type Modifieds at the ready on Saturday.

Main event action on Saturday is slated to start at 7:30 p.m. sharp; with qualifying beginning at 6:00 p.m. Grandstand seating will open at 4:00 p.m.

Wall Stadium is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The speedway office is open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and all day Saturday during events. JIMMY BLEWETT RETURNS TO MODIFIED VICTORY LANE

SATURDAY AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ After nearly destroying his Eddie Partridge owned No. 5 Modified stock car during the first lap of the “Garden State Classic” on July 18, Howell’s Jimmy Blewett returned to victory lane Saturday night (July 25) in the 40-lap main event for the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modified stock cars at Wall Stadium. Blewett credited his crew and sponsors for repairing his car in time to claim the Able Ford Subaru Racing Series win.

Anthony Sesely of Matawan was the first leader of the test, but Blewett was on a mission as he charged into second in short order. Blewett then took his time in sizing up the leader, but Sesely’s run in the sun ended on the 10th lap when his No. 77 slowed and handed the lead to Blewett. Sesely then chased Blewett for five more laps until his car slowed again and he slipped through the field.

Meanwhile, Blewett stayed at the top of his game as the laps wore on. Chas Okerson of Freehold advanced to second when Sesely slipped out of contention and raced home the runner-up. Shaun Carrig of Little Falls was third, while Steven Reed of Freehold and Tim Arre of Toms River completed the top five.

“I could not have done this without my crew and all the people who help with this car,” Blewett said. “Everyone who works on this car is just amazing. A week ago we had $10,000 worth of damage and tonight we are fast and in for the win.

“I have a great team and that is all there is to it.”

The visiting TQ Midgets of the American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association made their first appearance of the season here to compete in the first annual Tony Romit Memorial. Dave Williams was the first leader of the 35-lapper, before Joey Payne took the lead on lap nine. Payne then paced the pack through lap 20 when Frank Fischer drove his No. 26 to the front. Fischer then held his ground to the finish, with Payne crossing the line second and Ian Cumens finishing third. Mike Janisch and Williams were fourth and fifth.

Carl Thomas of Tinton Falls raced to his second win of the season in the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks. Thomas took the lead from early pace setter Elliott Wohl of Freehold on lap 11 and never looked back. Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood raced into the runner-up spot late in the race, while Gregg Miranda of Hazlet was third. Mike Tillett of Bayville and Keyport’s Rick Kopf were fourth and fifth.

Roger Coss won a thriller for the I.N.E.X. Legend Cars as he grabbed the lead on the final lap to win the 25-lap main event. On that final lap, a lapped car blocked the path of then leader Zach Alspach momentarily and allowed Coss to race into the lead for his second win of the year. Brick’s Bryan Gardella also raced by Alspach for second, while Mark Tischler and Wall’s Robert French were fourth and fifth.

Kevin Davison of Howell and Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck waged a battle royal for the win in the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman 25-lapper until the duo touched in the third and fourth turns with just a few laps remaining. As a result, Davison went spinning and Eyres went on to win over Brick’s Robert Sutphin, Dan Roslin of Little Egg Harbor, Mike Smith of Spring Lake Heights and Matt Przemielewski of Toms River.

The Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stock 20-lap nightcap also came down to a two car battle between Ricky Williams and Tom Fratesi. This duo wrestled for several laps before Williams muscled his way into the lead with an inside lane pass in turn four in the closing moments. STEVEN REED WINS “GARDEN STATE CLASSIC 150”

SATURDAY AT WALL STADIUM; TENTATIVE 2010 SEASON ANNOUNCED

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ After suffering through two horrendous early season crashes that were not his fault, Freehold’s Steven Reed rebounded with the biggest victory of his career Saturday night by winning the 49th running of the “Garden State Classic 150” at Wall Stadium. Just as the Reed received good news with his impressive Able Ford Subaru Racing Series victory, fans in the large grandstand crowd also got positive news as promoter Jim Morton announced with he had a tentative agreement with property owners to present racing again in 2010.

When the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modifieds lined up for the 150-lap grind, Reed was third on the grid by the luck of the draw after posting the fastest one lap time in time trials. The event got off to a rocky start, however, when Tim Arre of Toms slammed the fourth turn rail with his No. 81 and was then hammered by point leader Jimmy Blewett of Howell in the No. 5. Both cars were out of the race with heavy damage and Arre was transported to the Jersey Shore Medical Center with a possible shoulder injury.

Once that accident was cleared, Reed charged to the front of the field. Reed’s No. 55 then held the lead for the remainder of the distance, although several challengers tried to steal away the glory. First Shaun Carrig of Little Falls knocked on Reed’s door, before Anthony Sesely of Matawan moved into the runner-up spot at the half way mark. Neptune’s Tommy Farrell then took his turn at the leader starting on lap 120 before Chas Okerson of Freehold took up the chase near lap 130. Chris Hamilton of North Haledon, who took over second with just ten laps remaining, chased Reed to the finish line.

At the checker flag it was Reed, Hamilton, Okerson, Carrig and Brick’s Robert Geibel rounding out the top five. Sesely was sixth.

“This is the one race that has always eluded my family, so I am glad to win it,” Reed said. “At first we were going to pit for new tires, but we were running so good on what we had, we decided to stay out there.”

Reed was one of the few finishers who completed the distance on one set of tires.

“I am really proud of all the people who help me,” Reed said. “We’ve wrecked this car a couple of times this season and they just keep coming back and making it perfect. I have to thank my Mom and Dad and all the crew. This win is big.”

In support division action, Roush Racing team member Ryan Flores made one of his rare Wall Stadium visits worthwhile by winning the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars over Brick’s Bryan Gardella and Mark Tischler of Bridgewater.

Gregg Miranda of Hazlet fought off stiff competition from start to finish to win the 25-lap main event for the Street stocks. Justin Gumley of Colts Neck applied plenty of pressure before finishing second, while Ralph Gargiulo of Brick was third.

Kevin Davison of Howell fought off Brick’s Robert Sutphin to win the 25-lapper for the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman racers, while Dan Curtis of Jackson was third. Vinnie Green of Red Bank won a 20-lap wrestling match with runner-up Richard Petey of Hackettstown to grab the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stock trophies. Joey Helberg of Union was third.

Wall Stadium races back into action this Saturday night, July 25, with the Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Legend Cars and Factory Stocks in action. Also on the card will be the first appearance of the year by the ATQMRA TQ Midgets. The Midgets will race in the 30-lap “Tony Romit Memorial.”

WALL STADIUM TO HOST CUSTOM CAR

“FRIDAY NIGHT CRUISE NIGHT” ON JULY 17

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Wall Stadium, known as the “home of auto racing at the Jersey Shore” for well over a half decade, will now be known as the “home of Friday Night Cruise Nights” during the summer of 2009. The first of these “family friendly” gatherings is set for Friday night, July 17, with two more set for August 14 and September 11. The first Cruise Night, set for June, was rained out. All “Friday Night Cruise Nights” are set to start at 6:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. Admission is free of charge for both car show participants and those who visit the speedway to admire the custom cars.

“We wanted to put together something that the entire family can enjoy,” promoter Jim Morton said. “We want to welcome everyone from the young people with the newer Mustangs and Hondas to the classics and the muscle cars to the street rods and the restored antiques. These cruise nights will just be a lot of fun for the entire family. And since it is a free evening out, everyone should be able to attend and enjoy a summer evening.”

Several of the speedways race car drivers also plan to display their machines and meet with those from the surrounding community during the evenings.

Plans call for all of the special cars to be parked in the large, paved pit area at the speedway. Food will be available from the speedway’s refreshment stands and participants will get the chance to cruise around Wall Stadium’s famous third mile high banked oval as the track’s pace car will lead groups of cars around the track though out the evening.

Current plans also call for paid “timed attacks” on the paved infield. For those who choose to participate, “timed attacks” allow drivers a chance to drive through a course set up of cones in an effort to post the fastest time.

Friday’s event is just part of a big weekend as on Saturday night the speedway hosts the prestigious “Garden State Classic 150” for the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modifieds. In addition, the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman cars, the INEX Legend Cars, the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks and the Street Stocks will be on the card. On Saturday, qualifying begins at 6:00 p.m., with main event racing starting at 7:30 p.m.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The speedway office is open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and all day Saturday during events. It was the second time that the N.E.E.T.S. racers have competed at Wall Stadium in the Able Ford Subaru Racing Series this season.

JIMMY BLEWETT WINS MODIFIED 40; CARL THOMAS WINS STREET STOCK BT MEMORIAL 50 AT WALL STADIUM JULY 4

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The fireworks were literally on the speedway Saturday night (July 4) at Wall Stadium as Howell’s Jimmy Blewett in the Modified 40-lapper and Tinton Fall’s Carl Thomas in the “BT Memorial 50” lap Street Stock race took down emotional wins on the Independence Day weekend Able Ford Subaru Racing Series card.

In the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modified race, Anthony Sesely of Matawan was the early leader, but Blewett wasted little time in charging to the front. A major crashed stopped the race cold on lap five when several cars piled up on the back stretch. The cars of Freehold’s Steven Reed and North Haledon’s Chris Hamilton got the worse of the exchange, but no injuries were reported.

Once back to action Blewett needed just a few laps to charge to the front on the inside lane before racing to the convincing win over Sesely, Chas Okerson of Freehold, Brick’s Robert Geibel, who was running his first Modified race, and Manchester’s Scott Riggleman wrapped up the top five.

“I owe this win to my brother,” Blewett said referring to John Blewett III who lost his life in a Thompson, Conn. racing accident a few years ago. “He left me his (chassis) set-up book. Thanks to him, we were able to get this car handling and driving the way it should. Thanks to my brother and the crew on this car we won tonight.”

Thomas’ win in the Street Stock 50-lapper was emotional due to the fact that the race was a memorial to his late father, Bobby Thomas, who passed away a year ago. With his family in the grandstands to cheer him on, Carl Thomas started a sparkling red No. 11 in the fourth starting spot and roared into the lead on lap 10. From that point on Thomas had the race well in hand.

At the finish Gregg Miranda of Hazlet was the runner-up, with Elliott Wohl of Freehold, third and early race leaders Nick Gargiulo of Allenwood and Howie Conk of Jackson fourth and fifth.

“I wanted to put on a great show for the fans,” Thomas said in the winner’s circle. “This one is for my dad. You don’t know how important it was for me to win this race. This place was such an important place for my dad. It is also my Saturday night home in the summer.”

In support division action, Brick’s Robert Sutphin raced to his first win of the season in the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman 25-lapper over an ever challenging Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck. Jason Treat and Bruce Roslin, both of Jackson, and Matt Przemielewski of Toms River were third through fifth.

When leaders Mike Alcaro of Newton and Roger Coss of Lafayette tangled in the final turn, Kevin Nowak Medford, N.Y. raced on to win the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars. Alcaro recovered for second, with Zack and Trevor Alspach, both of Willingboro, finishing third and fourth. Wall’s Robert French placed fifth.

Mike Bilello of Neptune took the lead on lap two and raced on to win the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stock 20-lapper. Ricky Williams, Union’s Joey Helberg, Roy Farfel of Wall and Dan Birdsall of Brick were second through fifth.

The next event on the schedule is set for this Saturday night, July 11, when the N.E.E.T.S. Enduro Series visits the shore speedway. In addition the INEX Legend Cars will be on the “Family Fun Night” agenda. On Saturday evening, fans aged 13 and older will be admitted to the grandstands for just $5, while fans aged 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. Racing starts at 7:00 p.m. and spectator grandstand seating and on-track practice will open at 5:00 p.m.

STREET STOCKS HEADLINE JULY 4 AUTO RACING WITH

“BT MEMORIAL 50” LAPPER AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The fireworks will be on the speedway at Wall Stadium this Saturday night, July 4, as five divisions of stock cars battle in Able Ford Subaru Racing Series action. Heading the card will be the always thrilling Street Stock racers in the 50-lap “BT Memorial” championship race. Also on the Saturday night agenda will be the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modifieds, the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman cars, the INEX Legend Cars and the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks.

Main event action is slated for 7:30 p.m. sharp, with qualifying action set for 6:00 p.m.

The “BT Memorial 50” event is run in the honor of long-time Wall Stadium supporter Bobby Thomas who passed away last year. Thomas served on the pit crews of many Wall Stadium race teams, was instrumental in the famous International Race of Champions and, most importantly, was there to help anyone who needed it in the pit area. Thomas family members are expected to be at the track Saturday for the race and Bobby’s son, Carl Thomas, will be in the field for the 50-lap grind.

Almost every driver on the Street Stock roster has made it clear that this is a race that he or she wants to win. 2009 feature winners Carl Thomas, Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood, Howie Conk of Jackson and Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg will be favorites for the win, as will standouts Dave Jennings of Howell, Elliott Wohl of Freehold, Nick Gargiulo of Howell and Ralph Gargiulo of Brick. Time trials will set the field for the 50-lapper.

The Modified stock cars are slated for a 40-lap main event, while the Sportsman cars and the Legend Cars are each scheduled to go 25-laps in their feature race. The Factory Stocks are set for a 20-lapper. Heat races are planned for the four divisions.

Plans call for the competitor pit area to open at noon on Saturday (July 4), with a paid practice session running from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Regular practice will start shortly after 3:00 p.m., while spectator seating opens at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying is set for 6:00 p.m. and the first main event will get the green flag at 7:30 p.m. sharp.

JIM WISMER WINS “LATE MODEL 100” – JON MEYER TOPS “FACTORY STOCK 40” HEADLINE AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY NIGHT

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Jim Wismer, Jr. won the 100-lap “Race of Champions Qualifier for Late Model stock cars and Jon Meyer topped the 40-lap championship event for the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks during the Saturday night (June 27) Able Ford Subaru Racing Series events at Wall Stadium. Roger Coss, Jr. in the Legend Cars and Howie Conk in the Street Stocks joined Wismer and Meyer as first time Wall Stadium winners on “Fenders Only Night.”

Both racers and fans waited out late-afternoon and early-evening showers that delayed the racing program nearly two hours.

Long Island speedster Kevin Metzger jumped to the lead at the outset of the Late Model 100-lapper and held his ground through the first half of the contest as Wismer spent most of this time patiently running second. Metzger continued to lead after a restart at the half way mark, while Wismer suffered a bad restart and slipped from contention.

Wismer then continued his patient driving style as he remained in the top five. Then, as the race neared the 80 lap mark, Wismer began to climb through the top five. Mike Colt in the No. 61 slipped into the lead at the lap 80 mark after Metzger and Jarrod Hayes tangled in turn four and spun from the top two spots, but Wismer was right on Colt’s bumper. Wismer then sized up the leader before charging to the lead for good on a lap 82 restart.

From that point on Wismer stretched an advantage to the finish, while Colt hung on for second and Dave McOmbee crossed the line third. Metzger and Mike Sweeney completed the top five.

“You don’t know how much this means to me,” the former Flemington Speedway champion said. “This is the only paved track in New Jersey, so in a way this is my home track. It is so special to win here. There is so much history. The Blewetts, Tony Siscone, the Bohn family and so many others have won here. That means so much.”

In just his fourth race in the Factory Stock division, Jon Meyer led early and then returned to the top spot in the closing laps to win the division’s 40-lap championship race. Meyer started from the pole and led the first 26 laps before Gregg Clerico slipped into the lead on lap 26.

Clerico then held off the late race challenges of Joe Constandi until the duo tangled in the third turn in the final laps and tagged the guard rail. That handed the lead to Vinnie Green who then pitted. That elevated Meyer back to the top spot where he stayed for the final two circuits of the contest. Joey Helberg, Dave Birdsall, Roy Farfel and Whitey Miller completed the top five.

Howie Conk experienced a wide array of emotions on Saturday. In the morning, the Jackson resident attended his grandfather’s funeral. On Saturday night, he raced to his first ever 25-lap Street Stock main event win.

“I want to dedicate this win to my grandfather,” Conk said after the race. “This is for my grandfather and for everyone who has helped me. My dad has always supported my racing and I couldn’t do it without him.”

Greg Miranda led the first half of this one, before Conk took command when Miranda went spinning in turn four. Ralph Gargiulo challenged Conk late in the race before tagging the third turn rail. Conk then raced home to the win. Carl Thomas was the runner-up, while Nick Gargiulo, Jerry Stanzione and Ray Minieri were third through fifth.

Roger Coss, Jr. of Lafayette grabbed the lead with just seven laps remaining and went on to win the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars. Young Robert French, who led the first 18 laps, was close behind in second at the finish, with Bryan Gardella of Brick finishing third. Derek Hopkinson and Zach Alspach were fourth and fifth.

Wall Stadium will celebrate the Independence Day Weekend on Saturday night, July 4, with a five division stock car racing card. In the spotlight will be the Street Stocks in a 50-lap championship race, while the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modifieds will battle in a 40-lap main event. The Calabreeze Pools Sportsman cars, the INEX Legend Cars and the Factory Stocks will also see main event action.

Plans call for the competitor pit area to open at noon on Saturday, with a paid practice session running from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Regular practice will start shortly after 3:00 p.m., while spectator seating opens at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying is set for 6:00 p.m. and the first main event will get the green flag at 7:30 p.m. sharp.

“FENDERS ONLY NIGHT’ SET FOR JUNE 27 AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Rain that started in the area at mid-morning and the forecast of more for the afternoon and evening forced Wall Stadium promoter Jim Morton to rain out Saturday night’s (June 20) “Fan Appreciation Night” Able Ford Subaru Racing Series events. KEYSTONE STATE STANDOUTS HIRSCHMAN AND BAER TO RACE IN MODIFIED TWIN 50’S SATURDAY, JUNE 13, AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Two of Pennsylvania’s most respected tour type Modified stock car drivers, Matt Hirschman and Todd Baer, say that they will be in the field this Saturday night (June 13) for ROC Qualifier “Twin 50” lap main events at Wall Stadium. Neither driver was able to be on hand when the tour type Modified visited Wall for the first time this season back on May 9. The night’s qualifying will start at 5:00 p.m., while feature race action is slated to take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Also on this Saturday’s (June 13) agenda will be the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman and Street Stock racers in 25-lappers and the Legend Cars and the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks in 20-lap main events.

Todd Baer has also proven to be a driver to watch in his relatively short tour type Modified stock car career. The New Tripoli, Pa. resident has already become a driver to respect in eastern Pennsylvania racing circles where he was honored last year as a tour type Modified Rookie of the Year. Baer’s No. 41 should be a car to watch on Wall’s third-mile high banked paved oval this Saturday.

Among those who were impressive during the May 9 event and are expected to return Saturday is Keystone State favorite Earl Paules of Palmerton, Pa. Also making their intentions of returning known are local standout Ken Woolley, Jr. of Howell in the famous Dick Barney owned No. 14, Long Island favorite Tony Ferrante, Jr. in his family owned No.

59, fan favorite Tim Arre of Toms River and Rich Ely of Manasquan, among others.

Main event action on Saturday, June 13, is slated to start at 7:00 p.m. sharp, with qualifying beginning at 5:00 p.m. Grandstand seating will open at 4:00 p.m.

Wall Stadium is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. WALL STADIUM TO HOST FIRST CUSTOM CAR

“FRIDAY NIGHT CRUISE NIGHT” ON JUNE 12

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Wall Stadium, known as the “home of auto racing at the Jersey Shore” for well over a half decade, will now be known as the “home of Friday Night Cruise Nights” on four occasions during the summer of 2009. The first of these “family friendly” gatherings is set for Friday night, June 12, with three more set for July 17, August 14 and September 11.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. CHAS OKERSON AND TIM ARRE WIN TWIN MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND MODIFIED RACES AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Chas Okerson of Freehold and Tim Arre of Toms River were at the top of their games on Saturday night as each took top honors in Twin 30 lap main events for the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modified stock cars at Wall Stadium. It was the first win of the season for each driver.

As fog and mist rolled in off the ocean, Anthony Sesely vaulted to the lead with Okerson close behind. When Sesely’s mount slowed on the seventh circuit, Okerson was able to throttle into the lead with a host of challengers close behind. Shaun Carrig of Little Falls soon moved into second and challenged Okerson until running into trouble on a lap 13 restart.

Howell’s Jimmy Blewett, who borrowed the No. 2 of Stu Pear after his own No. 5 was damaged in a qualifying crash, then moved into second and chased Okerson to the checker flag. Arre was third, with Rob Schultz of Wayside, fourth and Chris Hamilton of Oakland, fifth.

“My father and the crew get the credit for this one,” Okerson said. “The last time we raced this car was almost totaled in a first lap crash. They did all the work to make it a winner again.”

The second Modified feature saw Lavallette’s Adam LaCicero jump to the lead early as Arre soon took over second. Arre haunted the leader until the ten lap mark when he throttled to the outside lane and into the lead. From that point on LaCicero chased Arre to the checker flag, while Carrig, Bob Boardwick and David Reinhardt wrapped up the top five.

“My car-owner Bob Nelson gives me everything I need to win the crew keeps the car running great,” Arre said. “And I need everything I can get. The competition is pretty tough here.”

In Calabreeze Pools Sportsman division action, Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck raced to his first win of the year after passing Brick’s Robert Geibel for the lead with 18 of 25 laps complete. Jason Treat of Jackson crossed the finish line in second, but failed a post-race inspection handing runner-up honors to Dan Curtis. Charlie Kremer III of Toms River, Joey King, Jr. of Absecon and Dan Roslin of Little Egg Harbor completed the top five.

Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood was in the right spot at the right time to grab the win in the 25 lapper for the Street Stocks. Gregg Miranda of Hazlet led early, but when he spun on a lap nine restart, Vanderveen took the lead and never looked back. Carl Thomas was second at the stripe, with Ralph Gargiulo of Brick, Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg and Mike Tillett of Bayville completing the top five.

Hamilton’s Don Neuls took command early and never looked back in winning the 20-lapper for the Legend Cars. Mike Fulton and Mark Tischler, both of Bridgewater, Roger Coss and Zach Alspach were second through fifth.

Joe Constandi took the lead on lap seven and then paced early leader Richard Petey to the finish line to win the 20-lap nightcap for the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks. Third through fifth went to opening night winner Gregg Clerico, Joey Helberg of Union and Mike Bilello of Brick.

The next event on the schedule is set for this Saturday night, May 30, when the N.E.E.T.S. Enduro Series visits the shore speedway. In addition the INEX Legend Cars will be on the “Family Fun Night” agenda. On Saturday evening, fans aged 13 and older will be admitted to the grandstands for just $5, while fans aged 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.

MODIFIED “TWIN 30’S” KICK OFF JERSEY SHORE SUMMER SEASON

AT WALL STADIUM ON MAY 23

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ With two highly successful stock car racing programs already in the books for the 2009 season, Wall Stadium promoter Jim Morton is ready to kick off the 2009 summer season with “Twin 30” lap main events for the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modified stock cars on Saturday night, May 23. The Memorial Day weekend event will follow the same time schedule as the preceding two race dates with main events starting at 7:00 p.m. and qualifying beginning at 5:00 p.m.

“That time schedule has worked really well for us in the first two races,” Morton said. “Starting the feature races at 7:00 p.m. has allowed us to throw the final checker flag at around 9:30 p.m. That allows families the chance to either head home early to put the kids to bed or head into the pit area to meet our drivers.

“So far this year I can’t believe the number of kids I’ve been seeing at the track and the number of kids that are visiting the pit area with their parents to meet the drivers after the races. That is a good thing for our sport.”

Howell’s Jimmy Blewett will be one of the drivers to watch as the Modifieds battle in a pair of 30-lap main events. In addition to winning the tour type Modified portion of last November’s “Turkey Derby” here, Blewett has also won both 100-lap races for Modified style cars contested at the stadium thus far this season.

JIMMY BLEWETT IS TOPS IN SATURDAY’S (MAY 9) WALL STADIUM

TOUR TYPE MODIFIED 100-LAPPER

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Jimmy Blewett of Howell is as hot as a firecracker at Wall Stadium. His most recent streak started last November when he won the tour type Modified stock car portion of the annual Turkey Derby. His good fortune continued on April 18 when he topped the Grand Reopening 100-lap main event for the Modified stock cars. On Saturday night (May 9) Blewett’s good fortune continued as he drew the number one starting spot in a blind draw and went on to win the Race of Champions Qualifier 100 running away.

“I guess there were some people here who wished I would have drawn last,” Blewett said in the winner’s circle. “But still, I’d rather be lucky than unlucky. I’m just glad to see a good crowd here again tonight and I hope you’ll all come back again.”

Blewett jumped right to the front at the first green flag with Tony Ferrante, Jr. of Franklin Square, N.Y. close behind. Ferrante tried the outside of Blewett on several occasions in the early going before settling into second and finishing the race in that spot. The big race for position was for third in the closing laps as Howell’s Ken Woolley, Jr. held off Flemington’s Andy Walko, who finished fourth, and the fifth place finishing Steven Reed of Howell.

In support division action Mark Tischler of Bridgewater held off Hamilton’s Steve Stull to win the 20-lapper for the Legend Cars, while Carl Thomas drove away from Ralph Gargiulo and Howie Conk to win the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks.

Charlie Kremer, III of Toms River fought off a handling problem late in the Calabreeze Pools Sportsman 25-lapper to take the win over Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck and Brick’s Robert Sutphin. Tom Fratesi of Flemington won the 20-lapper lapper for the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks running away.

The next event on the Saturday night schedule is set for May 23 when the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modifieds compete in Twin 30-lap main events. Sportsman, Street Stock, Legend Cars, Factory Stock racers will also be on the card.

Meanwhile, the “Sunday Series” of small car racing on the fifth mile paved “inner oval” continues most Sundays with racing starting at noon.

JIMMY BLEWETT HANGS ON TO WIN SATURDAY’S 100-LAP MODIFIED GRAND REOPENING AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Jimmy Blewett of Howell pocketed $2,500 Saturday night by winning the “Thunder at the Shore” 100 lap main event for Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modified stock cars at Wall Stadium. Although Blewett led the 24 car field through most of the 100 laps around the third mile paved oval, he endured challenges from several drivers plus an ill-handling race car on the track's Grand Re-Opening night.

"The car was great early in the race, but then something happened," Blewett said. "Something broke in the rear suspension and that slowed us up. I felt the pressure from the cars behind me all the way to the end of the race."

Tim Arre of Toms River, one of those who haunted Blewett earlier, slipped into second again in the closing laps, while Adam LaCicero of Lavallette, who challenged Blewett heavily late in the race, finished third. Dave Michael of Manahawkin and rookie Billy Cole of Farmingdale completed the top five.

In support division action, Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg won the 25 lap Street Stock feature by holding off the competition most of the way. Nick Gargiulo of Howell slipped past Jackson’s Elliott Wohl for second at the finish, while Howell’s Dave Jennings and Jackson’s Howie Conk wrapped up the top five.

Wall's Mike Smith was the winner in the 25-lap Calabreese Pools Sportsman feature. Robert Sutphin of Brick fought off Colts Neck’s Kevin Eyres for second, while Robert Geibel of Brick and Charlie Kremer III of Toms River were fourth and fifth.

Gregg Clerico of Egg Harbor Township was tops in the 20-lapper for the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks. Joey Helberg of Union moved into second in the late going, while Kenny Green of Farmingdale was third. Richard Petey and Christian LaCicero were fourth and fifth.

Kyle Beaty, who works on the cars of several competitors, made the long tow north from Concord, N.C. well with it by winning the 20-lapper for the Legend Cars. Roger Coss and Brick’s Bryan Gardella were a tight second and third, while Mike Lester and Zach Alspach finished fourth and fifth.

The next event on the schedule is set for May 9 when the Tour Type Modifieds compete in a 100-lap main event. Sportsman, Street Stock, Legend Cars, Factory Stock racers will also be on the card.

Meanwhile, the “Sunday Series” of small car racing on the fifth mile paved “inner oval” continues most Sundays will racing starting at noon.

WALL STADIUM SETS THURSDAY NIGHT TECH INSPECTION AND SPECIAL SATURDAY PRACTICE SESSION

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ After rain washed out the much anticipated April 11 final practice session before this Saturday’s (April 18) Grand Reopening stock car race, Wall Stadium promoter Jim Morton has announced two special activities that should help racers get ready for racing action set for this Saturday night.

First off, Morton says that technical inspectors will be at the speedway Thursday (April 16) from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. to inspect cars for both technical and safety issues. During those hours the speedway office will also be open so that competitors and crew members can obtain their 2009 licenses and avoid expected lines during Saturday’s open day activities.

Then on Saturday (April 18) from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., the third mile paved oval will be open for a special paid practice session to kick off a very busy season opening agenda. Pit area gates will open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The regular afternoon practice session will then begin at 3:00 p.m., while spectator seating will open for the first time this season at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying, including Modified time trials, will start later in the afternoon before main events roll out onto the track at 7:00 p.m. sharp.

“The fans are welcome to come out as early as they want to witness all the practice and qualifying, but feature races will start at 7:00 p.m.,” promoter Jim Morton said. “With the current economy, we want to save our racers a little money by not running heat races unless we have to. If a division doesn’t have enough cars to warrant heat races, we won’t force the racers to run them.

While the April 18 “Thunder at the Shore” opening night event will feature that special 100-lap Championship Race for the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modifieds, also on that agenda will be the Sportsman and Street Stock racers in 25-lapper and the Legend Cars and the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks in 20-lap main events.

The speedway hotline number is 732-681-6400, while more information is also available at www.wallspeedway.com.

WALL STADIUM OFFICIALS: EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO RUN

PRACTICE ON SATURDAY (APRIL 11)

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Despite a forecast that calls for early Saturday morning rain, Wall Stadium promoter Jim Morton said Friday afternoon that every effort will be made to run the final practice scheduled for Saturday (April 11) before the April 18 season opener.

“With Sunday being Easter, we do not have the luxury of a Sunday rain date,” Morton said. “Still, I realize the importance of this practice since it is the final one before the season opener.

“The latest forecasts say that the rain should stop in the morning. In fact, some forecasts are calling for sunny skies by later in the afternoon. After looking at all of the forecasts, we are going to make every effort to run practice on Saturday. We will be prepared to start drying the track as soon as the rain stops falling. We may have to start well after our scheduled 10:00 a.m. starting time and continue well after the planned ending at 4:00 p.m., but we are planning to run practice.”

Morton also mentioned that fans and competitors are welcome to call the speedway hotline at 732-681-6400 all day Saturday for updates.

Once all of the pre-season practice is complete, the April 18 “Thunder at the Shore” opening night event will feature a special 100-lap Championship Race for the Wall/SK Modifieds. Also on that agenda will be the Sportsman racers, Street Stocks, Legend Cars and the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks.
