PAVEMENT NOTES: TURKEY DERBY XXXVII by Walter Stubbs                                                                                                                      WALTER STUBBS
For all of you who thought I moved, got put in jail, or as Lenny Sammons commented on Saturday, “ I was ready to ask Earl for your date of birth to look for your obituary,” I will only say that I’m back. After taking a year off due to too many things to recall in this space, this past weekend gave me an opportunity to watch a race live for the first time in over a year. What better place to re acquaint yourself than to go back to the place where it all started for me over 40 years ago when my folks dragged me to the stands between the fourth turn and the flag stand while I watched the Hoffman’s, Hearne’s, Kremer’s, and Siscone’s do battle every Saturday Night. Some added incentive was the fact that the track had once again closed in early September....Full Story

JIMMY BLEWETT WINS TOUR MODIFIED FEATURE AT TURKEY DERBY XXXVII                                                                      THECHROMEHORN.com
On a very cold day, fans packed Wall Township Speedway for Turkey Derby XXXVII. With the modifieds starting their feature after the sun set, the temperature dropped rapidly. Although the front pack has some tight racing for the feature, the last 10 laps had all fans on their feet as #76 Jimmy Blewett fended off #60 Matt Hirschman to win the Tour Mod 150. Following closely behind were #08 Tommy Farrell III, #54 Shaun Carrig and #95m John Markovic. In the Wall/SK Modified race, #50 Matt Hirschman grabbed the 100 lapper. #16 Anthony Sesley, #99 Chas Okerson, #57 Keith Rocco and #3 Jeff Malave rounded out the top 5....LIVE Replay with Denise DuPont    Photo Gallery by Reid & Richie Grodski    Photo Gallery by Fran Lawlor    Photo Gallery by Jim DuPont

(9/6/10)

A message from me sent today, to the owners of Wall Stadium :
To: Tim@unitedcraneofnewjersey.com
Cc:

"http" info@jfcson.com

To : Tim Shinn , Joseph Sanzari,J.Fletcher Creamer, and Fred Archer

I can understand your desire not to "run Wall Stadium".

But what I take issue with is this.

Couldn't you forgo that for just a few more weeks ?

The proper, and honorable decision would've been to take over running the track, temporarily. Just long enough to let the drivers, teams, and the kids of the Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club finish their season.

While doing this you could still have dealt with leasing the track,or selling it to another track owner/operator,for 2011,and beyond.

What you did ,while it was a business decision. Lacks honor. I find that digusting.

Sincerely,

Joseph L. Fekete

WALL: Wall stock-car track closes as manager's lease expires

(9/3/10)

Asbury Park Press article link :

Courteousy of Jim Morton / Track Promoter / Wall Stadium (http://www.wallspeedway.com/ ) :
RACING CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!
OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM JIM MORTON:

I am very sorry to have to release this message, but I have depleted all my resources, and it is a flat out matter of money.

I opened the race track back up after it was closed by the property owners in 2008. I opened it knowing I was financially way over my head, but I knew if it did not open for the 2008 calendar year that the race track would be closed permanently, as it operates under a non use variance in the town, and if it went an entire year without running the variance would expire.

With all this said, I was able to lease the track from the owners for Turkey Derby, upon it's success I was able to lease the track for 2009, and again in 2010.

2009 was a lose, but close enough that I thought I could be profitable for 2010 as I had many verbal commitments for advertising and sponsorships. Unfortunately, the economy continued to spiral downward and people were not able to keep those commitments.

For what the amount of the lease is, it is impossible to run the race track on attendance alone. I went to the property owners to try to renegotiate my lease, as I could not meet the original lease agreement, there answer to my request was no. My request was not only the money, but the the time when the payments were due, I therefore had no choice but to shut down and vacate the property at the owners demand.

I truly pray that someone will come forward who has the means to keep our beloved Wall Stadium alive. I want to thank all my employees, racers, and fans who supported the track. I don't want to get into a long drawn out thank you to every single person who was involved, though everyone is deserving of that, but I want to say thank you to Bob Fox who was the maintenance man who kept the place glued together, and my pal Mench, no one will really how how much you really did around there, and last but not least, Susan Simpson for your unwavering support of the racers, the fans and myself, and my business, your hours of endless dedication to the success of Wall Stadium, it would not have lasted as long as it did without you, I can't thank you enough.

Please understand I want nothing but success for this racetrack. I know there are some talks currently going on for the continuation of the track, I pray that they become reality, remember never say never, and never give up, thanks again for all your support, we had 2 more years than we thought we would have when it was closed down in 2008.

May God Bless You All,
Jim Morton
{ Personal note . Jim's message ends with a glimmer of hope. But it is only a glimmer. And while I will do what I can,to fight for the track . I am not,at this time, trusting to hope.
