Cliff Krause Statement on  Wall Stadium (followed by a Turkey Derby Update !)

(Thanks Jeff Gravatt !):

CLIFF KRAUSE SAYS WALL STADIUM WILL REMAIN PAVED:

HAS NO INTEREST IN OTHER SPEEDWAYS

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Despite reports to the contrary, Wall Stadium promoter Cliff Krause says that he has no plans to change his third mile paved oval’s racing surface to dirt. Krause also said that reports suggesting that he has an interest in promoting another speedway are completely untrue.

“In a way, I can see how these stories may have gotten started,” Krause said. “Most people know that I have a strong love of and involvement in local racing on both paved and dirt surfaces. People also know that I am very excited about bringing dirt track Modified and Sportsman cars to Wall Stadium’s paved track for Turkey Derby in a few weeks.

“But let me make this perfectly clear. I see no reason to change Wall Stadium’s paved surface to dirt and I have no plans on changing the surface while I’m involved with Wall Stadium. I also am not interested in operating any other speedway.

“I am concentrating on Wall Stadium and on Turkey Derby on Thanksgiving weekend.”

"Halloween Spectacular" news & a historic moment @ Wall Stadium !

  (Thanks Jeff !):

SESELY BACKS UP MODIFIED CROWN WITH SATURDAY

WALL STADIUM WIN

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Newly crowned Wall Stadium Modified stock car driving champion Anthony Sesely proved to all that he is worthy on Saturday as he won the 75-lap main event which was the cornerstone of the first annual “Halloween Spooky Spectacular” auto racing program. It was the sixth win of the year for the Matawan speedster and sets him up as a favorite in the annual season-ending Turkey Derby races set for Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.

By the luck of the draw Sesely shared the front row with Toms River’s Tim Arre at the outset of the event. Sesely was able to out race Arre into the early lead. Sesely then paced the contest the rest of the way, although Justin Gumley of Colts Neck offered plenty of restart competition late in the contest. Chas Okerson of Freehold, Arre and Lafayette’s Roger Coss completed the top five.

“There were some nights this season when this car was perfection,” Sesely said. “It wasn’t perfect tonight, but it was close. The crew, the sponsors and my family give me a great car for every race.”

In the companion main event for the Sportsman cars that was originally set for 50-laps but was shortened to 25 due to time restraints, Shawna Ingraham of Brick raced to her first ever win and became the first ever female racer to win a Wall Stadium race in an open wheel stock car. Charlie Kremer III of Toms River, Howell’s Kevin Davison, Brick’s Robert Sutphin and Trevor Alspach of Willingboro chased Ingraham across the line.

Joey Helberg of Union topped the 30-lapper for the Factory Stocks after early leader Ronnie Mullen of Brick spun with just a few laps remaining. Vern McLaughlin of Whitehouse Station, Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach, Toms River’s Marty Van Druten and Rick Siddons of Beachwood completed the top five.

Elliott Wohl of Freehold crossed the finish line first in the Street Stock 25-lapper, but when his car failed post-race tech newly crowned champ Howie Conk of Jackson was awarded the win. Shannon Mongeau was second in this one, followed by Joe Oliver, Sal Liguori and Jim Downey.

Derek Hopkinson of Toms River celebrated his 2011 Legend Cars driving crown with his eight win of the season on Saturday. Howell’s Robert French, brothers Trevor and Zack Alspach, both of Willingboro and Rob Hyer wrapped up the top five.

Last minute entry Joey Payne raced through the field to win the TQ Midget main event, while Dave Parker won the MicroStock feature race.

The track will present a NEETS Enduro, the “Frankenduro,” on October 30 with the pit area opening at 10:00 a.m., the grandstands opening at noon and the first race beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wall Stadium will then close out the year with the two-day Turkey Derby on Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. Enduro racing will then return on Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.

HAMILTON WINS RACE; SESELY TAKES MOFIEID TITLE

AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Chris Hamilton of North Haledon won the final 40-lap battle of the regular season, while Anthony Sesely of Matawan won the season-long war for the Modified stock car driving title at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was Hamilton’s second win of the campaign, while Sesely celebrated his first speedway driving crown.

While Hamilton jumped to the lead in the early going, he had no easy time of it as defending champion Chas Okerson of Freehold chased him all the way to the finish. Although the battle for the lead was exciting, even more thrills were offered while Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Sesely, Adam LaCicero of Lavallette, Jason Treat of Jackson and Roger Coss of Lafayette battled for position close behind.

At the checker it was Hamilton, Okerson, Carrig and Sesely who nailed down the crown with his fourth place finish. Treat completed the top five.

“I have to thank Chas for being a gentleman,” Hamilton said in the winner’s circle. “Don’t get me wrong, he didn’t let me nap, but he drove a very clean race.”

Robert Vassilatos, Jr. of Brick fought off stiff competition to win the companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars. After wrestling past fellow Brick resident Adam Gordon in the early going, Vassilatos fought off Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Kevin Eyres of Clots Neck for the win. Eyres earned his third straight driving title with his third place finish, followed by Zach Alspach of Willingboro and Shawna Ingraham of Brick.

Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach came from deep in the pack to win his 12th Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stock main event of the season and nail down the 2011 driving title. John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant was the runner-up, while Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach, Whitey Miller of Old Bridge and Brick’s Ronnie Mullen completed the top five.

Derek Hopkinson of Toms River raced to victory and the divisional driving crown in the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars. Robert French was second and Trevor Alspach of Willingboro was a tight third. Ron Poley of Egg Harbor Township and Eatontown’s Malcolm Campbell completed the top five.

Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg led from start to finish to grab the victory in the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks. Shannon Mongeau was a close second, while Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood was third and Howie Conk of Jackson, who clinched the 2011 driving crown, was fourth. Mike Tillett of Bayville was fifth.

This Friday evening, September 30, Wall Stadium will host the final free to the public custom, muscle car, street rod, racecar and classic car show of the year. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the show continues until dark.

JIMMY BLEWETT WINS JOHN BLEWETT MEMORIAL

AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Jimmy Blewett made his first start of the year at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night a successful one as he lead from start to finish to win the 76-lap John Blewett Memorial for Modified stock cars. The Howell resident won the race, which was contested in memory of his late brother who passed away in a Connecticut racing accident four years ago, in a car that was painted the same as the first car that supporter Don Ling owned. Ling was honored for his contributions to the sport during the evening.

After suffering numerous mechanical problems early in the evening, Blewett posted the seventh fastest time during time trials before picking the second starting spot in a blind draw. Blewett battled fellow front row starter Kevin Flockhart of Jackson in the early going until point leader Anthony Sesely of Matawan arrived in second from a fifth starting spot.

Simply put, from lap eight on Sesely tried every possible path to race into the lead only to have Blewett slam the door time after time. As it had been much of the race, when the checker flag waved Sesely was right on Blewett’s rear bumper. Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Lafayette’s Roger Coss and Flockhart completed the top five.

“It has been a long time since I’ve won a race, so this feels really good,” Blewett, who has concentrated on dirt track racing this season, said. “I want to thank (car-owners) Scott Matarasso and Jeff Willett for letting me do this. I also have to thank my grandfather and father for all their support with our racing.”

Trevor Alspach of Willingboro had as close to a perfect night as possible on Saturday.

In the 38-lap Sportsman main event, Alspach sprinted away from the field to take his first ever win in that division. Rookie Jonathan Mandato of Toms River was impressive in finishing second, while Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Brick’s Robert Sutphin and Howell’s Kevin Davison wrapped up the top five.

Alspach was also victorious in the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars, although he had to fight of Jackson’s Dan Roslin and Howell’s Robert French to the finish line. Derek Hopkinson of Toms River and Zack Alspach of Willingboro were fourth and fifth.

Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach came from 13th on the grid to win the 25-lapper for the Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stocks. Steve West of Howell was second, while Todd Pilla of Beachwood, Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach and early leader Troy Gant of Brick wrapped up the top five.

Mike Tillett of Bayville celebrated an emotional career first win in the Street Stock 25-lapper as he dedicated the victory to his father-in-law George Pieruicenti who passed away on Friday evening. Tillett jumped to the lead early and never looked back even though Nick Shaw of Chatham closed in at the finish. Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood, Jackson’s Howie Conk and Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg completed the top five.

Wall Stadium will wrap up the Saturday night regular season this weekend (Sept. 24). The Modifieds will lead the regular season finale with a 40-lapper, while the Sportsman cars, Legend Cars, Street Stocks and Factory Stocks are all scheduled for 25-lappers. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Stock car action will then return on October 22 for the first ever “Halloween Spooky Spectacular” before the season closes on November 25 and 26 with the traditional “Turkey Derby XXXVIII” events.

KREMER TOPS SPORTSMAN FEATURE AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Charlie Kremer III raced from fifth on the starting grid to win the Blewett Recycling Sportsman stock car 25-lap feature race Saturday night at Wall Stadium Speedway. It was the second win of the year for the Toms River resident.

Trevor Alspach of Willingboro was the first leader of the event as Kremer started to pick his way to the front. By lap seven Kremer had advanced to second, but then slipped a few spots in a scuffle while defending champ Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck advanced to the runner-up spot.

Both Eyres and Kremer were right on Alspach’s rear bumper as the field passed the halfway point. Lap fifteen became the turning point in the event when the front-runners touched and scrambled on the front stretch. With the yellow flag never waving Kremer was able to find the opportunity to race into the lead and then on to the win.

Howell’s Kevin Davison was second, while Brick’s Joe Mongeau, Eyres and Howell’s Chris Lane completed the top five.

“I think it was just a racing deal,” Kremer said of the front stretch incident among the leaders. “I just got real lucky and was able to drive to the inside. That’s how I got the lead.”

Alspach still enjoyed a great evening of racing as he topped the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars. Alspach started fifth and took the lead on lap 19. Derek Hopkinson of Toms River and Jackson’s Dan Roslin were a tight second and third, while Todd McClure of Manville and Wall’s Robert French completed the top five.

Brick’s Ronnie Mullen chased down early leader Neil Katz to take the lead with just four circuits remaining in the non-stop 25-lapper for the Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stocks. Katz was the runner-up, while Howell’s Steve West, Toms River’s Marty Van Druten and Robert St. Hilaire were third through fifth.

Ron Frees of Browns Mills appeared to be home free for his fifth straight Street Stock win, but when his car failed a post-race inspection point leader Howie Conk of Jackson was awarded the win. Bayville’s Mike Tillett was the runner-up, with Rick Kopf of Keyport third, Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen fourth and Nick Shaw of Chatham fifth.

Robin Johnston of Wayne, Pa. raced to his second win of the year in the 25-lapper for the TQ Midgets. Mike Tidaback was the runner-up, with Donnie Adams crossing the finish line third.

Emily Krause of Holmdel, the daughter of track operators Cliff and Diane Krause, led every lap of the Powder Puff race for the ladies, stretching an impressive advantage over runner-up Jessica McKeon.

In go kart action, James Johnson won the open kart race, Jared DiGiantamasso won the Jr. Gold event and D. Colandra was tops in the Sr. Champ division.

Wall Stadium offers motorsports action on both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon this coming weekend. On the Saturday night (9/17) the Modifieds will compete in the 76-lap “John Blewett III Memorial.” Blewett was a championship driver who lost his life in a racing accident in Connecticut four years ago.

Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

News & Results from last nights racing action @ Wall Stadium ! (Thanks Jeff  Gravatt !):

SESELY (MODIFIED) AND HOPKINSON (LEGEND) WIN WALL

40-LAPPERS SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Modified stock car driver Anthony Sesely of Matawan and Legend Cars speedster Derek Hopkinson of Toms River each enjoyed 40-lap feature race victories at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night (9/3). Sesely’s victory was his fifth of the year, while Hopkinson enjoyed his sixth win of the campaign.

Farmingdale’s Billy Cole led the Modified race early, before Shaun Carrig of Little Falls raced into the lead on lap 20. Soon Tim Arre of Toms River and Sesely charged into second and third and the lead trio hooked up in a tight fight for the lead.

This lead battle boiled over with just eight laps remaining when the trio touched and Carrig went spinning. With the officials feeling that Arre contributed to the miscue, he was sent to the rear of the pack moving Sesely into the lead and on to the eventual win. Freehold’s Chas Okerson, Chris Hamilton of North Haledon, Lafayette’s Roger Coss and Arre completed the top five.

“From what I saw it seemed like a racing accident,” Sesely said after the event. “When the 54 car slowed it seemed to trigger a chain reaction. I just wish we all could have raced to the finish.”

Hopkinson was dominant in the INEX Legend Cars 40-lapper. He charged his No. 17 to the front with just four laps down and never looked back. Howell’s Robert French recovered from early trouble to impress with a runner-up finish, while Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan was third and brothers Zach and Trevor, both of Willingboro, were fourth and fifth.

“I always thank my family, but this week they really worked hard on the car,” Hopkinson said. “I started college this week, so they had to have the car done early. They did a great job.”

In the companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars, Brick’s Robert Sutphin raced into the lead early and drove on to his second win of the year. Zach Alspach, Howell’s Kevin Davison, Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck and Brick’s Joe Mongeau were second through fifth.

Howell’s Steve West took the lead on lap 10 and then raced on to his third victory of the year in the Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stock 25-lapper. Whitey Miller of Jamesburg, Beachwood’s Todd Pilla, Brick’s Troy Gant and Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach completed the top five.

Brick’s Ron Frees continued to impress in the Street Stock division by winning his fourth straight 25-lap main event. Jackson’s Howie Conk, Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen, Nick Kopf of Keyport and Chatham’s Nick Shaw were second through fifth.

Wall Stadium offers motorsports action on both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon this coming weekend. On the Saturday night (9/10) card the TQ Midgets, INEX Legend Cars, Sportsman cars and the Street Stocks all race in 25-lap main events. In addition, a “Powder Puff” race for the ladies will be presented, Garden State Vintage Stock Car Clubs cars will be on display and go-karts will compete on the “inner oval.”

Saturday’s card will also feature the fans in “Banner Night” competition as they parade their banners for their favorite drivers for prizes. The speedway also urges fans to bring nonperishable foods for a food drive for victims of Hurricane Irene. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Then on Sunday “BigFoot” will lead a field of six Monster Trucks to the track for figure eight racing competition. In addition, Hollywood stuntmen and motorcycle jumpers will perform. Gates will open at noon, with an autograph session and Monster Truck rides starting at 1:00 p.m. The main event is set for 3:00 p.m. with a second autograph and Monster Truck ride session to follow.

ERIC MAURIELLO WINS SPORTSMAN 75 SATURDAY NIGHT AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Stock car driver Eric Mauriello enjoyed the biggest victory of his young career Saturday night as he won the “Sportsman 75” lap championship race at Wall Stadium. It was the fourth win of the season for the Howell resident.

After a series of caution flags for minor incidents slowed the early laps of the event, Brick’s Robert Sutphin was the early leader while fighting off Chris Lane of Howell, Trevor Alspach of Willingboro and others. All the while, Mauriello was advancing from a fifth starting spot and moved into second by the seventh lap.

Mauriello then sized up Sutphin before swinging to the outside lane on lap 11 to take the lead. Although Mauriello then stretched his lead, fans were entertained by a battle for second between veterans Joe Mongeau of Brick and Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck to the finish.

At the stripe Mauriello almost lost control of his car, later blaming the slip on be “over excited.” Eyres got second at the checker, with Mongeau, Charlie Kremer III of Toms River and Brick’s Adam Gordon wrapping up the top five.

“This is real big for us,” Mauriello said of the Blewett Recycling Sportsman win. “All the people who are joining me here in the winner’s circle made this possible. The sponsors are real important. And my dad, he made this all happen for me.”

Derek Hopkinson of Toms River took down the win in the companion 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars, taking the lead on lap three after starting fourth. Brothers Zach and Trevor Alspach, both of Willingboro, crossed the line second and third, with Dan Roslin of Jackson and Malcolm Campbell of Eatontown fourth and fifth.

Ron Frees of Browns Mills won his third main event in as many outings in the Street Stock 25-lap feature race. Frees started sixth before taking the top spot in the 19th lap with a daring inside lane pass. Early leader Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg was second, with Nick Kopf, Nick Shaw of Chatham and Jackson’s Howie Conk wrapping up the top five.

Buddy Sloed, Jr. won his second 25-lap main event in as many outings in the Three Quarter Midget feature race. Ryan Tidman, Zach Martini, Dan Lane and Matt Janisch wrapped up the top five.

Wall Stadium returns to action this Saturday night (August 27) with “Teen Night,” which will feature a discounted admission for teens and a live performance by the band Micro Machine. On the card the INEX Legend Cars will be in the spotlight in a 40-lap main event, while the Modifieds race in a 40-lapper and the Sportsman cars and the Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stocks race in 25-lap main events. TIM ARRE RACES TO WALL STADIUM MODIFIED WIN

ON FIRST RESPONDERS NIGHT

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Veteran Modified stock car driver Tim Arre raced to victory in the 40-lap main event at Wall Stadium Saturday night. The popular Toms River veteran made his first start since a major crash in July to take the “First Responders Night” win.

Farmingdale’s Billy Cole III jumped to the lead at the initial green flag, but never had an easy go of it. Almost from the start, Arre and Roger Coss of Lafayette were right on his bumper as they fought for second spot. Arre was finally able to gain control of second before setting his sites on Cole. Arre finally found his path into the lead at the halfway mark and then raced on to the win.

Cole and Coss were strong to the finish crossing the line second and third, with defending champion Chas Okerson of Freehold fourth and current point leader Anthony Sesely of Matawan fifth.

“This is just a great night for us to win,” Arre said after the race. “We’ve had some very tough races and I am so glad to win this for (car-owner) Bob Nelson. We also want to honor all the First Responders on this very special night.”

The INEX Legend Cars were also in the spotlight Saturday with “Twin 25” lap main events. In the first one, invader Mike Alcaro raced to a thrilling win over Willingboro’s Zach Alspach, Howell’s Robert French, Trevor Alspach of Willingboro and Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan.

In the second Legend Cars 25-lapper, French grabbed an impressive victory over Trevor Alspach, Dan Roslin, Zach Alspach and Van Wickle.

Steve West of Howell took down his second win of the year in the 25-lap Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stock feature race. The former Legend Cars standout was chased across the finish line by Rick Siddons of Beachwood, Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach, Whitey Miller of Jamesburg and Toms River’s Marty Van Druten.

Ron Frees of Browns Mills grabbed his second straight win on the 25-lap nightcap for the Street Stocks. Nick Shaw of Chatham, Jackson’s Howie Conk, Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen and Mike Tillett of Beachwood completed the top five.

Wall Stadium returns to action this Saturday night (August 20) for “Carnival Night”. On the card will be the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars in a 75-lap main event, while the Street Stocks and Legend Cars battle in 25-lappers. The open cockpit Three Quarter Midgets will also be on the card. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

ROGER COSS BEATS RAIN AND MODIFIEDS AT WALL SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Roger Coss was one of the many auto racing enthusiasts that were happy that Wall Stadium Speedway officials waited out early evening rain showers. The popular Lafayette speedster was then able to dry off his racecar and drive to his second Modified stock car feature race win of the season Saturday night.

Coss started fourth in the 40-lapper and immediately went after the lead. After a couple of caution flags for minor incidents slowed the early action, Coss and Farmingdale’s Billy Cole hooked up in a side-by-side battle that thrilled the fans for many laps. Even after Coss took the lead on lap 14, Cole continued to haunt him until lap 28 when point leader Anthony Sesely of Matawan powered into second.

Sesely then tracked down Coss to make it a tight finish for the lead, while Cole, Freehold’s Chas Okerson and Amanda Sesely of Matawan completed the top five.

“I hope Billy Cole knows how much fun that was racing like that lap after lap,” Coss said. “I really respect him for the way he drives and the way he drove tonight. He ran me hard but clean.”

After suffering through crashes in the last two Blewett Recycling Sportsman events, Zach Alspach of Willingboro made the ultimate comeback by winning the companion 25-lapper. Alspach took advantage of a front row starting spot and never gave anyone a chance to ruin his night.

Howell’s Kevin Davison also enjoyed a comeback after two straight wrecks by finishing second, while Toms River’s Charlie Kremer III, Howell’s Eric Mauriello and Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck were third through fifth.

Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach won the first of two 25-lappers for the Street Stocks, taking the lead near the half way point. Ron Frees of Browns Mills, Rich DeMarco, point leader Howie Conk of Jackson and Bayville’s Mike Tillett were second through fifth.

The second Street Stock 25-lapper saw Frees take the win after racing to the lead on lap nine. Nick Shaw of Chatham was second, followed by Howie Conk, Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg and John Kopf.

Shannon Mongeau visited the winner’s circle for the ninth time this second in the Sanzari/Shinn Factory Stock 25-lap feature after starting ninth on the grid. Early leader Ronnie Mullen of Brick was the runner-up, with Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach third, Howell’s Steve West fourth and Rick Siddons of Beachwood, fifth.

Early in the evening, officials debuted a new four-cylinder racecar for competition in a division yet to be named. Current plans call for the car to be completely stock except for safety modifications. The cars will race on the fifth mile flat “inner oval” and the direction of competition, either right or left turns, will be determined in a blind draw before each event. Rules will be available soon.

Wall Stadium returns to action this Saturday night (August 13) with “First Responders Night.” On this evening, all members of police, fire and first aid organizations will be admitted free with proper identification. On the card will be the Modified stock cars in a 40-lap main event, while the Street Stocks, Legend Cars and Factory Stocks battle in 25-lappers. The Sportsman cars have the night off.

Pit gates will open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday; with a paid practice session to be conducted from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. Regular practice will then start at 5:00 p.m. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

DOWNEY AND WEST TOP FACTORY STOCK TWINS AT WALL SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach and Howell’s Steve West stood proud in the winner’s circle Saturday night at Wall Stadium Speedway as each took down wins in “Twin 25” lap main events for the United Crane Factory Stocks.

In the first 25-lapper Todd Pilla of Beachwood and Downey wrestled for the lead early before Pilla slowed with mechanical trouble and Downey raced off in the lead. Downey then continued out front, while seven-time winner Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach and Troy Gant of Brick closed in. The final laps were thrilling as the trio diced for the lead before Downey grabbed the win by a fender over Mongeau and Gant. Rick Siddons of Beachwood and Brick’s Ronnie Mullen completed the top five.

In the Factory Stock nightcap, Marty Van Druten of Toms River led early before West throttled to the front on lap seven. West then appeared to have the race well in hand until a lap 23 tangle slowed the action and bunched the leaders. On the ensuing restart West was still the leader, but Mongeau was again there to challenge. Still, West beat Mongeau to the line, with John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant, Richard Petey of Hackettstown and Robert St. Hilaire of Pt. Pleasant wrapping up the top five.

The companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars saw Eric Mauriello of Howell take the lead near halfway and then race on to his third win of the campaign. Defending champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck was second, with Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Charlie Kremer III of Toms River and Brick’s Joe Mongeau finishing third through fifth.

Zach Alspach of Willingboro raced from fifth on the grid to win the 25-lapper for the INEX Legend Cars. Alspach took the lead with ten laps in and then led Dan Roslin of Egg Harbor Township, Toms River’s Derek Hopkinson, Howell’s Robert French and Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan to the finish line.

Buddy Sloed, Jr. made his first ever Wall Stadium win a big one as he captured the prestigious “Tony Romit Memorial” over a fast closing Joey Payne. Ryan Tidman, Alison Cumens and Matt Janisch were third through fifth.

Tom Ervin won the “Jack Bellinato Memorial” for the visiting World Formula Tour Microstocks.

Wall Stadium returns to action this Saturday night (August 6) with four divisions of racing action. On the card will be the Modified stock cars in a 40-lap main event, while the Sportsman cars, Street Stocks and Factory Stocks battle in 25-lappers. The INEX Legend Cars have the night off.

“We were really looking forward to the Late Model race and up until this morning (Thursday) we had every indication that a full field would be entered,” speedway operator Cliff Krause said. “The we learned this morning from the organizer that far from a full field would be on hand.

“Because of that, we had no other choice than to cancel that race. I’m still very excited about the evening of racing we have on tap. We have a lot of divisions and a couple of extra important races set for the fans.”

Saturday night should still be an exciting evening of action, as the touring Midgets of the American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association will join many of Wall Stadium Speedway’s stock car divisions for a gigantic racing program. The open cockpit TQ Midgets, perhaps the fastest cars that race at the speedway, are set to honor one of their best and most admired drivers ever by competing in the “Tony Romit Memorial.”

The United Crane Factory Stocks will also be in the spotlight in Twin 25 lap main events. Seven-time winner Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach is expected to be in the field, but will see plenty of competition from the likes of Todd Pilla of Beachwood, Steve Lynch of Aberdeen and Howell’s Steve West, just to name a few.

Also on the Saturday night card will be the Microstocks in the “Jack Bellinato Memorial”, Sportsman cars and Legend Cars. The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will also be on hand.

“Pirate Night” festivities will feature a scavenger hunt for the kids that will be presented throughout the evening.

Pit gates will open at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, with a paid practice session set for 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Regular practice will be up next and grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. The first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Chas Okerson Wins Saturday Night at Wall Stadium.

OKERSON WINS MODIFIED MAIN ON HOT SATURDAY AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Defending Modified stock car driving champion Chas Okerson rose to the occasion as the temperature rose to record highs by winning his second main event of the season Saturday night at Wall Stadium. Two separate hard crashes stopped the race before five laps were in the books, but Okerson powered out to the safety of the lead soon after.

The first tangle happened entering turn three on the third lap when Bill Weichert of Chatham and Farmingdale’s Billy Cole touched entering the turn. Weichert’s No. 11 slammed the pit gate opening with great force, but he was not injured. The second hard crash came on the restart when the previous week’s winner, Chris Hamilton of North Haledon, slammed the guardrail exiting turn two. Again, Hamilton climbed from his damaged racer uninjured.

On the ensuing restart Okerson rocketed to the front and was never headed all the way to the conclusion of the 40-lapper. Early leader Amanda Sesely of Matawan was second, with Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Lafayette’s Roger Coss and David Reinhardt of Neptune City wrapping up the top five.

“I’m sorry that it wasn’t a better race for the fans, but once I got out front I felt a lot safer,” Okerson said. “My car was really good tonight thanks to my crew. It was pretty hot in the car, but you don’t think of it when you’re racing.

“I do want to dedicate this win to both Ray Gastelu and Jim Willis. Ray passed away a little over 10 years ago and Jim died just over a year ago. They were great friends and racers, so I wanted to be sure to mention them.”

After starting seventh on the grid, Charlie Kremer III of Toms River raced to the victory in the companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars, holding off Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck in the final laps. Howell’s Eric Mauriello, Joe Mongeau of Brick and Trevor Alspach of Willingboro were third through fifth.

Chatham’s Nick Shaw raced to his third win of the season in the Street Stock 25-lapper over Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood. Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach, Howie Conk of Jackson and Mike Tillett of Bayville.

Howell’s Robert French raced to victory in the 25-lap INEX Legend Cars main event. Trevor Alspach, Casey Robicheau of Whiting, Toms River’s Derek Hopkinson and Zach Alspach of Willingboro were second through fifth.

Matt Janisch of Nazareth, Pa., who has raced here on several occasions in Three Quarter Midgets, grabbed his first ever Wall Stadium win in the 20-lap main for the visiting open cockpit SpeedSTRS. Paul Lotier was a close second.

Wall Stadium roars back into action this Saturday night (July 30) with Late Model stock cars visiting the oval for a 40-lap main event. Also on the card will be TQ Midgets, Microstocks, Sportsman cars and Legend Cars. TOBIAS SPEEDSTERS JOIN FOUR STOCK CAR DIVISIONS AT

WALL STADIUM THIS SATURDAY (JULY 23)

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The Tobias Speedsters, a relatively new, affordable racing division, will join Modified, Sportsman, Street Stock and Legend Car stock car racing divisions at Wall Stadium this Saturday night. Grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m., with Speedster time trials at 6:50 p.m. and qualifying heat races immediately thereafter.

The Tobias Speedsters should be suited perfectly to Wall Stadium’s third mile high-banked paved oval. Powered by methanol fuel injected engines, these open-wheel, open-cockpit racecars closely resemble Sprint Cars. Most of the regular Speedster competitors are looking for this Wall Stadium visit because it is one of the rare times that they will compete on asphalt.

Headlining the evening’s action will be the open wheel Modified stock cars in a 40-lap main event, while the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars, the Street Stocks and the INEX Legend Cars will all race in 25-lap main events. The United Crane Factory Stocks will enjoy a well-deserved night off before returning on July 30 in “Twin 25” lap main events.

Along with the excitement of professional auto racing, Saturday’s card will also take on a fun atmosphere as “Luau Night” festivities are being offered. On this night only, all fans wearing a Hawaiian style shirt to the ticket window will enjoy a discounted ticket price. Festive island music will also be featured over the public address system and island themed foods will be offered at the refreshment stands.

Pit gates will open at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, with a special Speedster practice session set for 4:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Regular practice will be up next from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. and grandstand seating will open at 5:00 p.m. Speedster time trials are set for 6:50 p.m. and the first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.

Looking ahead to July 30, the Late Model stock cars in a 40-lapper and the open cockpit TQ Midgets will join the Factory Stocks, Sportsman cars and the Legend Cars on the Saturday night card. The Garden Vintage Stock Car Club will also be on hand on July 30.

PAVEMENT NOTES: WALL STADIUM "A SALUTE TO THE CHAMPIONS" by Walt Stubbs                                                               WALTER STUBBS
A few of you are probably wondering where this column has been lately. Some have asked me why I haven’t been to a race or written a column the past couple of years. ( I did attend the Turkey Derby at Wall Stadium last November but hadn’t been to a race before that since Bristol in 2009) I really didn’t have one particular answer. Many factors had led me astray, if you will, from the smell of racing fuel and burnt rubber. As someone who has followed racing, and modified racing in particular, since the early 1970’s, much has gone on in the racing circles, many good and many bad. Some of these have factored into my “hiatus.” To be honest, not one particular thing has stopped me from going to the races. Things just change in life, and with it more....Full Story    Photo Gallery by Fran Lawlor

Street Stock racing at the third mile paved oval has been hard fought this season and Saturday night’s double distance main event is expected to offer nothing less.             The open wheel Modifieds will also be on the card in a 40-lap main event, while the United Crane Factory Stocks and the INEX Legend Cars will also each compete in a 25-lap main event. The Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars will have the night off.

News & Results from last nights racing action @ Wall Stadium !

(Thanks Jeff!) :

SESELY MODIFIED WINNER, LANE AND MONGEAU TOP SPORTSMAN TWINS AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ In front of a large grandstand crowd and close to 50 past Wall Stadium driving champions, Anthony Sesely raced to his fourth win of the year on “Salute to the Champions Night” at Wall Stadium. Chris Lane of Howell and Brick’s Joe Mongeau topped the companion Sportsman “Twin 25’s.”

Howell’s Jamie Tomaino and Tim Arre of Toms River fought for the lead at the outset of the Modified 40-lapper before Arre took command on lap eight and Chas Okerson of Freehold advanced to second. Arre, Okerson and Tomaino remained a tight top three at the half way mark as Sesely powered his way into fourth.

A lap 22 restart saw Arre and Okerson race side-by-side for second until Tomaino found the inside lane to his liking and slipped back into the runner-up spot. Arre and Tomaino then wrestled for the next three laps before touching in turn four. Sa a result Arre spun from the lead, Tomaino tagged the guardrail and Okerson grabbed the top spot.

Okerson and Sesely then raced side-by-side for the next several laps before Sesely used the outside lane to race into the lead and on to the win. Okerson, Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Lafayette’s Roger Coss and Ron Frees of Browns Mills completed the top five.

“I don’t think I could have won it if that didn’t happen in turn four,’ Sesely said referring to the Arre/Tomaino incident. “I don’t really know how it happened, but it was a turning point in the race for me.”

The first of two 25-lap main events for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars was super clean with just one caution slowing the action. Howell’s Chris Lane led this one from start to finish for his second win of the season over Brick’s Robert Sutphin, Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck, Howell’s Eric Mauriello and Kevin Davison of Howell.

Joe Mongeau of Brick won the nightcap 25-lapper, which was slowed by frequent cautions. Eyres, Farmingdale’s Steve Whitt, Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Willingboro’s Zach Alspach were second through fifth.

Joey Helberg of Union proved that seven-time winner Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach could be beaten as he led Mongeau across the finish line in the United Crane Factory Stock 25-lapper. Early leader Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach was third, followed by Todd Pilla of Beachwood and Marty Van Druten of Toms River.

Nick Shaw of Chatham raced to his second win of the year in the 25-lap Street Stock feature turning in a strong performance. Point leader Howie Conk of Jackson, Eric Gerchak, Shannon Mongeau and Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen wrapped up the top five.

Dan Roslin of Jackson won his first INEX Legend Cars feature since 2007, beating Derek Hopkinson of Toms River to the finish line in the 25-lapper. Zach Alspach, Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle, and Casey Robicheau of Whiting were third through fifth.

Wall Stadium roars back into action this Saturday night (July 16) with the Street Stocks heading the action in a 50-lap main event. The Modifieds are set for a 40-lap feature and the Factory Stocks and Legend Cars will each compete in 25-lap main events. The Sportsman cars have the night off.

WALL STADIUM TO SALUTE PAST CHAMPIONS THIS SATURDAY (JULY 9)

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Wall Stadium will celebrate both the stock car racing stars of today and the champions of seasons past this Saturday night as it presents “Salute the Champions Night.” Over 50 past champions, from as far back as 1957, will be on hand to great fans, sign autographs and relive cherished racing memories. The past champions will be introduced at 6:45 p.m. and racing will start immediately thereafter.

Expected to lead the gathering of past champions are the speedway’s only eight time driving kings, Gil Hearne of New Egypt, Manahawkin’s Dave Michel and defending Modified champion Chas Okerson of Freehold. Every stock car division that has competed at the oval will be represented.

The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club has worked hard to help put this event together, with great effort put forth by president and former driving champion Ray Shea of Brick.

After being added to the night’s agenda, the open wheel Modifieds will lead the way in a 40-lap main event. In addition to the Modifieds, the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars will be in the spotlight with “Twin 25” lap main events on the schedule. The United Crane Factory Stocks, the INEX Legend Cars and the Street Stocks will also each compete in a 25-lap main event. Qualifying races are also planned.

With no paid practice scheduled, Saturday’s slate will see the competitor pit area opening at 4:00 p.m., with a regular practice session then running from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. Spectator seating will open at 5:00 p.m., while Sportsman time trial qualifying is set for 6:30 p.m. to be followed by the introduction of past champions. The past champions will be available before and after introductions to meet with fans, sign autographs and relive racing memories.

Qualifying heat races will then begin at 7:00 p.m. to be followed by feature race action for all five divisions.

HEARNE’S DQ GIVE COSS WALL MODIFIED WIN SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Saturday night’s “Independence Day Weekend” 40-lap main event for Modified stock cars at Wall Stadium had the appearance of a storybook ending for New Egypt’s Jason Hearne. After six races contending for victory only to be struck by tough luck every time, the second-generation speedster crossed the finish line at the front of the field for the first time this season. Unfortunately, bad fortunes continued to follow Hearne as his car failed a post race inspection, which handed the win to Roger Coss of Lafayette.

By no means did Coss back into this win, however, as he raced from a sixth starting spot and battled his way into second with just ten laps remaining. Before that, Coss had fought side-by-side with some of the best racers in the division to get to the runner-up spot.

With Coss grabbing his first win of the year, Shaun Carrig of Little Falls took home second place money, with defending champ Chas Okerson of Freehold, third, Matawan’s Anthony Sesely, fourth and Howell’s Jamie Tomaino, fifth.

In the companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars, Eric Mauriello of Howell came from fifth on the starting grid to take the lead with just four laps remaining. Early leader Charlie Kremer III of Toms River held firm as the runner-up, with Adam Gordon, Joe Mongeau and Shawna Ingraham, all of Brick, rounding out the top five.

Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach raced from 13th to win his seventh United Crane Factory Stock main event in as many tries. Mongeau took the lead with 15 of the 25-laps completed and then cruised on to the win. Union’s Joey Helberg fought to the end before finishing second, with early leader Rick Siddons of Beachwood, third, Howell’s Steve West, fourth, and Troy Gant of Brick, fifth.

After Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan led the early going brothers Zach and Trevor Alspach, both of Willingboro, fought for the win in the 25-lap INEX Legend Cars feature. Trevor finally took command on lap 18 and then raced to the win with Zach second and Toms River’s Derek Hopkinson third. Van Wickle and Howell’s Robert French completed the top five.

Jackson’s Howie Conk raced into the lead with just six laps remaining to win the 25-lapper for the Street Stocks. Early leader Nick Shaw of Warren, John Kopf, Keansburg’s Jerry Stanzione and Joe Torchia of Jackson wrapped up the top five. This race was stopped cold on lap 19 when Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen suffered a struck throttle in his No. 19, hit the third turn guardrail, clipped a light pole and completely left the speedway. He was not injured.

Wall Stadium roars back into action this Saturday night (July 9) with “Salute to the Champions Night” action featuring an autograph and meet and greet session with over 50 of the speedway’s champs. (Listing of past champions attached) On the track, the Modifieds will race in a 40-lap feature, while the Sportsman cars compete in “Twin 25” lap main events. The Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and the Legend Cars will all race in 25-lappers.

With no early afternoon paid practice session planned, pit gates will open at 4:00 p.m. and the regular practice will start at 5:00 p.m. Sportsman time trials are then set for 6:30 p.m., with the introduction of the past champions to follow. Qualifying heats as needed will then follow before main event action begins at 7:30 p.m. or as soon after as possible.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The speedway hotline number is 732-681-6400, while CKMotorsports@aol.com is the track’s email address. More information is also available at www.wallspeedway.com.

“We had an on track party earlier this season and the fans really got a kick out of it,” speedway promoter Cliff Krause said. “The fans really like walking the oval, experiencing the high banks and collecting autographs from the drivers.

“Add the party to the racing and it makes for a fun evening.”

Once the track is cleared from the party, the action on the speedway will be as hot as a firecracker. The open wheel Modifieds will lead the way in a 40-lap main event. News & Results from Saturday Nights Garden State Classic @ Wall Stadium Speedway !

Thanks Jeff Gravatt !

ANTHONY SESELY WINS WALL’S GARDEN STATE CLASSIC

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Anthony Sesely of Matawan grabbed perhaps the biggest victory of his young Modified stock car driving career Saturday night as he won the 51st anniversary Garden State Classic at Wall Stadium. Sesely started ninth in the 23-car field and patiently worked his way toward the front before taking the lead just past half way.

The winner’s sister, Amanda Sesely, also made Wall Stadium history when she became the first lady driver to start the Classic from the number one position. Amanda Sesely took the lead at the outset, but Farmingdale’s Billy Cole soon raced into the lead. Cole held off the strong advances of Shaun Carrig of Little Falls in the early going while also surviving several restarts. Meanwhile, Anthony Sesely picked his way toward the front of the pack and arrived in fourth behind Cole, Carrig and Jason Hearne of New Egypt by lap 55.

The turning point in this race came on a lap 66 restart after the track had been covered with oil from a competitor’s engine. While the track crew did an admirable job in cleaning up the slick mess, the left speedy dry used made for treacherous conditions. When the green flag returned pole sitter Cole wrestled to control his car while Carrig and Sesely charged into the top two spots. Moments later, Sesely advanced to the lead for good.

Carrig shadowed Sesely for the remainder of the 125-lap distance before settling for second, while Howell’s Ken Woolley, Jr. was third. Ron Frees of Browns Mills and Amanda Sesely wrapped up the top five.

“This is a big win for us,” Sesely said in victory lane. “I had to be patient coming through the pack, but that restart with all the speedy dry on the track was pretty crazy. I was really out of control. It was one of the scariest things I’ve done on a race track.”

Howell’s Chris Lane came from fifth in the 18-car field to win the companion 25-lapper for the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars. Brick’s Robert Sutphin was second, while defending champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck was third. Zach Alspach of Willingboro and Joe Mongeau of Brick wrapped up the top five.

Shannon Mongeau of Bradley Beach came from the 15th starting spot in the 22-car United Crane Factory Stock 25-lap feature to grab his sixth win in as many tries. Early leader Troy Gant of Brick was the runner-up, with John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant, third, Marty VanDruten of Toms River, fourth and Rick Siddons of Beachwood, fifth.

Derek Hopkinson of Toms River raced from ninth on the grid to take the lead and the win in the INEX Legend Car 25-lap feature. Willingboro’s Trevor Alspach was second with Wall’s Robert French, Edison’s Brian Spencer and Ron Poley of Egg Harbor Township completing the top five.

Wall Stadium roars back into action this Saturday night (July 2) with “Fan Appreciation Night” action featuring an on track party. The on track party will see every car from the pit area park down on the famous speedway. Once all the cars are on the track, the fans from the grandstands will be welcome to stroll the oval, meeting the drivers and taking photos of the cars. On the track, the Modifieds will race in a 40-lap feature, while the Sportsman cars, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and the Legend Cars all race in 25-lappers.

With no early afternoon paid practice session planned, pit gates and will open at 1:30 p.m. and regular practice will start at 3:00 p.m. Grandstand seating will open at 4:00 p.m. and the on track party will then begin at 5:00 p.m. and last until 6:30 p.m. The first qualifying event will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.
